Eka Global advices business sector to change business model
as El Nino accelerates Net Zeron trend
Longevity packaging cited as an innovative solution for Thai entrepreneurs
The expected long El Nino which will reduce lower agricultural production, the planned carbon tax collection by the EU, and Thailand’s carbon tax bill are expected to have increased the importance of business to achieve Net Zero. Eka Global, the leading producer of longevity packaging, therefore, advices Thai entrepreneurs to adjust business model and adopt longevity packaging as a remarkable solution to achieve the sustainability goal.
Chaiwat Nantiruj, Group CEO of Eka Global, said that the Department of Meteorology’s report released on September 7, 2023, indicated that Thailand will face El Nino, starting from now until January-March 2024. In July-September 2023, the country is likely to encounter minimal rainfalls and higher temperature. This unusual climate will significantly affect Thailand’s agricultural production.
“Thailand is one of the world’s largest food exporter and a Kitchen of the World. The impact from Climate Change and El Nino will surely have strong impact on Thailand. This time, El Nino is likely to last longer. Many researchers view that what we are facing now and next year will only be the beginning of the unusual climate and the domino effect will become clear and severe starting in 2025. With these conditions in mind, Thailand has to take action now,” said Chaiwat.
In terms of laws and regulations, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), a measure under EU’s green revolution policy, will begin its transition period on 1 October 2023 and become effective on 1 January 2026. In Thailand, it is expected that the carbon bill will be completed next year.
The legal moves in Thailand and other parts of the world have confirmed that Net Zero policy is unavoidable for the business sector. New business model has to be considered despite higher costs.
“The arrival of El Nino and intensive tax laws have confirmed that business operators must take action now. Environmental issues have to be addressed immediately otherwise they will have serious impact on business operations worldwide,” reiterated Chaiwat.
On consumer side, one of the largest issue to be tacked immediately is food waste. One third of the food produced everyday goes to landfill, which causes more environmental impact more than carbon dioxide emission by 25 times. Food waste, expired food, and discarded food in the production process are among the top causes of food waste. This piece of fact becomes a wake up call for the entire world. Consumers worldwide have started to pay more attention to reducing food waste and properly handle waste, starting from good raw material planning, optimizing ingredients and extending shelf life by using longevity packaging.
Eka Global’s longevity packaging meets with international standard and are designed to better address modern consumer lifestyle. Its products are produced with food grade raw materials in efficient production process with international safety and hygiene standards.
Thanks to its innovative production and design, Eka Global packaging can maintain the quality, taste, food safety and hygiene for longer period. They prevent leakage, are free from toxic chemicals and are 100% recyclable. Such innovative products can help food producers bring their products to their destination in the very same condition they leave the production plant tin Thailand. Consumers can also rest assured to the food quality, good taste, safety and hygiene.
In terms of design, Eka Global has ensured that they have modern look, are easy to store and use. More importantly, they can extend food product shelf life to two years even without refrigeration. Consumers can simply put the containers into a microwave, warm and eat with greater convenience.
“All of our products are 100% recyclable. We also have green product line, including bioplastic (PLA) that are completely made from natural raw materials and can be naturally biodegraded, and PCR containers. These are packaging of the futures and are the great helpers for food producers to grow sustainably. Our products not only best address the environmental issue, but also add values to the food products and can help producers extend their customer base by reaching wider group of consumers in other countries. At the same time, our packaging can help them reduce transportation cost,” said Chaiwat.
