Eka Global, the leading longevity packaging producer, plans to open a new production line, boosting production capacity by 350 million pieces or 15% per annum, to cope with remarkably increasing demand. New machinery will be installed and ready for production in September.

In addition to expanding production capacity, Eka Global has a strong commitment to circular economy and aims to play active role in sustainably reducing plastic waste. With its “green organization goal”, the company will continue to invest heavily in R&D to invent and produce more environmentally friendly packaging.

Mr. Chaiwat Nantiruj, Group CEO of Eka Global Co., Ltd., said that the company plans to expand its production capacity from currently 2,500 million pieces per year by another 15% or 350 million pieces. To achieve this plan, the company will launch a new production line, which will become the company’s 10th production line. The addition capacity will enable the company to better cope with rapidly increasing demand both in Thailand and other countries. The demand for longevity packaging is driven by worldwide consumers’ new normal lifestyle while COVID-19 pandemic continues.

“COVID-19 is the key factor encouraging people to change the way they live. Longevity packaging has become more popular as people are looking for packaging that can ensure them of high safety and convenience. These packaging fits well with current lifestyle where people work from home while some have to take self-quarantine. Similar trend is rising in every market, from the US to Europe, Japan, India and also Thailand. Our plants have been running at full capacity for quite some time and, still, we cannot meet with the rising demand and our orders keep climbing,” said Chaiwat.

The new machines have already arrived and the installation will be completed in August. In September 2021, the new production line will start its commercial production, boosting the company’s total production capacity from currently 2, 500 million to 2,859 million pieces per year.

Chaiwat added that the company aimed to become the innovative leader in longevity packaging industry with green business process. Starting from clear policy to take care of the environment, the company will also ensure high efficiency in its business process and comprehensive waste management. Based on circular economy concept and sustainable growth target, the company will promote efficiency in environmental management and reduction of plastic waste.

Although all of its products are already 100% recycle, Eka Global aims to do more. The company has continuously invested in research and development in order to invent greener products. For example, it is doing a research and development of longevity packaging that use plant as raw materials instead of oil. It is hoped that these products would better serve modern consumers’ need for more environmentally friendly packaging.

“Circular economy will be the core concept for our business operation this year,” said Chaiwat. “It is an efficient way to reduce impact on the environment. This concept encourages people to bring used products back to life but do not need to maintain the original form and function. For example, you can turn plastic bottles into oil.”

“This year, we have drawn our business policy based on circular economy concept. We have laid out a plan to take better care of the environment, starting from internal organizational management, R&D on environmentally friendly products and efficient business operation. We have designed our business model to support value creation of plastic waste. This will ensure that no plastic waste from Eka Global would be left outside and harm the environment. The environmental care and responsibility will be embraced throughout the entire business operation process. We believe, what we are doing will result in a good balance in the environment. At the same time, we are proud to do our part in helping the country managing plastic waste in a sustainable manner,” said Chaiwat.
