The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with Informa and energy network partners, launched the “ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week & Electric Vehicle Asia 2024” event to support PDP 2024, aiming to transition Thai industries towards clean energy.

The Ministry of Energy, together with the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), Informa Markets Thailand, and leading energy network partners from both the public and private sectors, jointly launched the “ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week & Electric Vehicle Asia 2024.” This event showcases technologies and innovations from leading energy industries worldwide. It is a premier regional platform that brings together the most extensive energy supply chain and network, with the goal of transitioning the Thai industry towards “Net Zero” energy.

Thailand announced its goals at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. In light of this important transition from traditional energy to stable clean energy, the Ministry of Energy, as the primary agency responsible for promoting and overseeing national energy security, along with Informa Markets, a leader in organizing trade shows and regional business negotiation events, and energy network partners, have grandly launched the “ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week & Electric Vehicle Asia 2024.” This event, which has been continuously held for over three decades, aims to guide Thailand’s industry across the entire supply chain towards clean energy and net zero carbon emissions.

Dr. Sompop Pattanariyankool Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy in Thailand, stated that the Ministry of Energy has charted a path towards achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions, considering emissions throughout the entire production chain from upstream to downstream. This is particularly significant for the industrial sector, which this year is set to announce the Power Development Plan (PDP) 2024. This plan aims to adjust the electricity generation structure so that renewable energy accounts for approximately 50% by 2037, marking a clear transition to clean energy for Thailand. The plan is crucial for enabling and adapting the industrial sector to energy dimensions efficiently, ensuring both economic sustainability and social and environmental responsibility. ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week and Electric Vehicle Asia 2024 events serve as platforms for discussing, sharing experiences, and creating opportunities for all sectors to collectively transition from traditional energy to sustainable clean energy in the future. This aligns with the Ministry of Energy’s vision to lead “Thailand towards energy security, focusing on clean energy to drive sustainable economic growth across all sectors.”

Mr. Krisda Utamote, President of Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), stated that in 2023, global electric vehicle (EV) sales reached nearly 14 million units, accounting for 18% of all vehicles sold in the automotive industry. This represents an increase of over 35% from 2022. Most EV sales last year were concentrated in China, Europe, and the United States, while in Thailand, EVs made up about 12% of total vehicle sales, with a nearly 690% increase compared to 2022. A key positive factor for this growth rate is policy measures that not only incentivize but also plan to attract car manufacturers to invest in EV production plants in the country. This is a promising signal for the emerging EV market in Southeast Asia. In summary, 2023 was also a year of growth for Thailand.Given this trend, the association continues to promote the exchange of knowledge on EV technology and innovation and to organize the Electric Vehicle Asia (EVA) event annually with energy and EV network partners. This year, EVA 2024 is being held under the theme “EV Ecosystem Transformation Towards Net Zero,” marking the 9th consecutive year. Key highlights include showcasing the latest EV technologies and innovations and the iEVTech international conference, which covers various EV trends comprehensively. The association believes that this platform not only gathers experts in EV technology from around the world to share their experiences but also serves as a crucial link to strengthen Thai entrepreneurs. It provides a comprehensive view of the EV ecosystem, or EV Eco System, which can be leveraged in production, leading to leadership in this modern or target automotive industry in the future.

Mr. Manu Leopairote, Chairman of Informa Markets – Thailand, stated that Informa has set a long-term plan of over a decade to collaborate with various sectors in all dimensions to transition the Thai industrial sector towards clean energy. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve Net Zero Emissions through the ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week (ASEW) and Electric Vehicle Asia (EVA) 2024 events. These events have been continuously organized for over 34 years, gaining regional recognition and serving as Thailand’s premier platform that gathers stakeholders in the energy and target industries across the entire supply chain in one place. ASEW 2024 is organized under the theme “Empowering the Transition to Clean Energy Towards Net Zero Emissions,” featuring the latest technologies from over 1,500 leading energy brands worldwide and international pavilions, including ATESS, DELTA, ABB, AIKO SOLAR, BCPG, HITACHI ENERGY, SCG, SMA, SOLAREDGE, SOLIS, and TESLA ENERGY. The event aims to create opportunities for Thai and ASEAN entrepreneurs to network with energy leaders. To cover all dimensions of energy, we have expanded the event to include Energy Storage Asia, strengthening ASEW by incorporating the latest energy storage innovations and technologies from leading global companies.Furthermore, a wealth of in-depth energy seminars will be conducted by experts, including the REA Conference, Asia Urban Energy Assembly, and Energy Storage Forum, among over 200 topics. There will also be special exhibition zones by leading organizations and companies providing knowledge and comprehensive advice on clean energy. Informa expects over 33,000 attendees this year and is confident that this platform will create opportunities for Thailand to become a leader in seamless energy transition, achieving the country’s goals and moving towards net zero carbon emissions in the regional industrial sector.

A significant step towards Thailand’s energy transition invites everyone to be part of the ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2024 (ASEW). This event is the largest exhibition and international conference in ASEAN on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy storage technologies. This year, it is held in conjunction with Electric Vehicle Asia 2024 (EVA), Thailand’s leading international electric vehicle technology exhibition and conference. The event is taking place now until July 5, 2024, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. For more information, visit www.asew-expo.com  and www.evasia-expo.com.
